Nineteen people on grounded vessel rescued

Nineteen people aboard a boat that ran aground a reef near Ziyaaraiyfushi, Male' atoll, have been rescued.

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) said they received reports of a vessel named 'Savaaree' en route to Male' From Ha. Kelaa running aground around 04:01 am early Friday. MNDF said 28 people were aboard the vessel at the time of the incident, including six women, three children, and 19 men.

At around 06:25 am, nineteen people, including the women and children, were rescued and brought to Male' by Coast Guard Male Area Second Squadron's Harborcraft. No persons were injured in the incident.

The owner of the vessel has dispatched another boat to refloat the grounded vessel.
