Japanese gov't extends MVR 1.2 mln grant for classroom construction

The Government of Japan has provided a grant of MVR 1.2 million to construct two classrooms in L. Gan, Mukurimagu School.

The Japanese Ambassador to the Maldives Takeuchi Midori and the Principal of Mukurimagu School, Abdulla Shareef, signed the grant contract in a ceremony held at the Education Ministry on Tuesday. Under the grant, two preschool classrooms for grades LKG and UKG will be constructed in the school.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Japanese Ambassador said the completion of the project would provide an enjoyable environment for teaching and learning for both students and teachers. She said that part of the grant may be used to construct an evacuation shelter to use in times of natural disasters.

The Education Ministry's State Minister, Dr. Abdulla Rasheed, said the Japanese Government has always been a generous partner to the Maldives' education sector. He thanked the Japanese Government for their contributions to education.
