MP Imthiyaz objects to postponing Chairperson election

MDP Chairperson candidate Maafannu North MP Imthiyaz Fahmy has said he objected to delaying the party's Chairperson election until after Ramadan. He made the statement while speaking at the MDP National Council meeting held Tuesday night.

MP Imthiyaz vies against Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail for the main-ruling party's Chairperson post. The election is scheduled to take place on April 16, which falls on the holy month of Ramadan. For this reason, Fayyaz's team has requested to reschedule the election until after Ramadan, and Tuesday's council meeting was organized to decide on the matter.

Speaking at the meeting, Imthiyaz said he was against changing the schedule and said the election must not be delayed even by one day. He said there was no reason or need to bring changes to a decision made by the National Council.

Although he is against delaying the election, Imthiyaz is open to preponing the election, he added.

'I do not want to postpone the election. I wish to continue with the date that the Committee first decided on, which they knew fell in Ramadan. I have no objection to preponing the election. But I will not agree to postpone the election,' Imthiyaz said.
