Drugs seized from UK national arriving in the Maldives

Maldives Customs Service has seized drugs from a UK national that arrived in the Maldives.

According to customs, the UK national arrived in the Maldives on March 6 and was flagged for suspicious behavior. Upon searching his luggage, substances suspected to be drugs were discovered.

Testing showed the substances were positive for Cannabis. Customs said 30.9 grams of Cannabis seeds and 40.3 grams of Cannabis herbal seeds were found in his luggage. The total weight of the items was 70.12 grams.

The suspect and the drugs are now in police custody, Customs said.

The amount of drugs being seized by authorities has increased in recent weeks. Earlier this month, on March 1, Customs seized 3.5 kilograms of drugs smuggled in via the post. The police seized 12 kilograms of drugs in a drug operation at sea last week.

Last January, Customs established a tactical team for special operations to enhance their efforts to stop the import of drugs.
