Customs seizes 3.3kg of drugs smuggled via sea

Maldives Customs has seized 3.3kg of drugs smuggled by sea.

The drugs were intercepted from Male' Commercial Port on Sunday. The seized contraband included 2,282 grams of cannabis and 1,038 grams of cathinone.

The frequency of drug seizures has risen sharply in recent months. Customs also seized 5.9 kg of drugs smuggled into the Maldives last month, which were also similar shipments of cannabis and cathinone brought in by sea.

The government of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has identified the drug problem plaguing the Maldives as a threat to national security and has prioritized addressing it as a critical issue.
