The Maldives Customs Service has intercepted 5.9 kilograms of drugs being smuggled into the Maldives.
The drugs were discovered during a search of an airfreight shipment flagged for suspicious contents. According to customs, the package arrived from Bangkok on October 31, and further examination revealed concealed items that tested positive for 416 grams of cathinone and 5,520 grams of cannabis.
The street value of these drugs is estimated at MVR 3.3 million.
Both the seized drugs and a 45-year-old man suspected of involvement have been handed over to the police for further investigation, customs officials confirmed.
