Ministry seeks party to construct housing units in Kurendhoo ahead of by-election

The government is seeking a party to construct 50 housing units in Lh. Kurendhoo. The announcement comes ahead of the Kurendhoo Council Presidency by-election scheduled for March 26.

Two candidates are contesting for Council Presidency - former Kurendhoo Council President Ismail Madeeh on opposing Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)'s ticket, and Ali Naseem from the main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

Due to the lack of a lagoon, further land reclamation is not possible for Kurendhoo, and the island faces dire housing issues. The announcement issued by the Finance Ministry on Monday seeking bidders for the design and build project said interested parties could submit their bids before April 13.

Last month, Finance Ministry made similar announcements seeking bidders to build 400 housing units in HDh. Kulhudhuffushi, 100 each in Lh. Hinnavaru and L. Gan, 50 housing units each in Sh. Milandhoo and Ga. Villingili, 40 units in N. Manadhoo, and 30 in N. Holhudhoo. Earlier this month, the ministry sought a party to develop 75 housing units in Ha. Dhidhdhoo. The bid submission deadline for all projects except the Dhidhdhoo housing project has passed. The deadline to apply for the Dhidhdhoo project is March 31.
