The Housing Ministry has provided details on the housing units and land plots being issued from the Greater Male' Region.
Galolhu North MP and Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Eva Abdulla, requested from the ministry to provide the details of the projects in writing. In her request, she noted that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had announced in this year's Presidential Address at the Parliament, that the government would provide housing solutions to Male residents, and asked for an update on the plans.
The Housing Minister, Mohamed Aslam's response to her inquiry was read aloud at Tuesday's Parliament sitting.
The minister said 1042 housing units are being constructed by Apollo Holdings, including 120 council housing units, 240 affordable housing units, and 682 mid-range units. The project is being carried out under a contractor-finance model.
While India's JMC Project India Limited is constructing 2,000 housing units, this includes 600 council housing units and 1,400 affordable housing units. The project commenced in January under a developer finance model.
According to the ministry, NBCC India will develop an additional 2,000 housing units. Similar to the JMC project, 600 council housing units and 1,400 affordable housing units will be constructed by NBCC India under a developer finance model.
The ministry said 1,000 land plots would be issued from Hulhumale, and the area from which the plots will be issued has been decided and charted. The policy to issue the plots is currently being formulated and is expected to reach completion by June this year. The project is funded by the State.
An additional 2,000 land plots will be issued from Gulhifalhu, and the Land Use Plan is currently being compiled. The preparations to begin reclamation work and loan agreement work are also underway.
The ministry said the land reclamation plans are being made for the 2,000 land plots to be issued from the Giraavaru lagoon. Efforts are also underway to obtain financing for the project.
