India's External Affairs Minister to arrive in Addu for police academy opening

India's External Affairs Minister, Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, will be arriving in southernmost Addu City to inaugurate the Police Academy developed under Indian assistance.

Jayashankar will be traveling directly to Gan International Airport from India. The Foreign Ministry said he would be arriving in the Maldives on Saturday night.

This would be Jaishankar's third official visit to the Maldives since he was appointed as India's External Affairs Minister in 2019.

The Foreign Ministry said after his arrival, Minister Jaishankar would attend official talks with his Maldivian counterpart, Minister Abdulla Shahid. Two MoUs will be signed between the two countries, and a press conference will be held to brief the media.

Jaishankar is scheduled to depart from the Maldives on Sunday.

While several India-funded projects are ongoing across the Maldives, the opposition has alleged that some projects threaten Maldives' national security. The opposition is currently leading a campaign calling to send away Indian military personnel in the Maldives
