Police arrest Pakistani pair caught smuggling drugs

Two Pakistani nationals who smuggled drugs into the Maldives have been arrested.

Maldives Police Service said a drug operation was carried out jointly by the police's Drug Enforcement Department and Tourist Police at Velana International Airport, based on information they received. Ahmed Ali, 32, and Moimina Gulfam, 20, were arrested after drugs were found in their bags and hidden in body cavities.

The pair were presented to the court to decide on their remand, and the judge ordered them to be remanded in custody for 15 days.
