President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has requested the Parliament to recall the Maldivian Ambassador to Germany, Ahmed Latheef, and to appoint Aishath Shan Shakir to the post.
The letter to the Parliament by the President did not state a reason for the decision. After the letter was heard at Monday's Parliament sitting, the matter was forwarded to the Committee on Foreign Affairs for further review.
Ahmed Latheef was appointed as the Maldivian Ambassador to Germany on January 20, 2019. The newly nominated Shan Shakir has previously served as the Maldivian Ambassador to Bangladesh. She currently serves as the Chief of Protocol at the Foreign Ministry. She was appointed to the post on November 15, 2020.
