Remand extended for Pakistani murder suspect

The Hulhumale Magistrate Court on Sunday extended the remand of a Pakistani chef who butchered a Bangladeshi waiter at a local restaurant into custody for 15 days.

The chef, identified as Mohamed Abid, 26, went on the run after attacking and killing a waiter at their workplace, Khanji Restaurant in Hulhumale, on April 16. The victim, MD Shameem, was attacked with a sharp knife and stabbed multiple times, resulting in his immediate death. His colleagues at the restaurant attempted to revive him in vain before he was taken to the hospital. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The police found and arrested the suspect the following day at a beach in the Hiyaa neighborhood of Hulhumale' Phase II. The Hulhumale' Magistrate Court initially remanded him in custody for 15 days. Upon the expiry of the remand period, the court has extended the remand by another 15 days.
