The Baibalaa tournament scheduled to begin on the 2nd day of Eid has been postponed.
The Bailalaa tournament was being held this year after a two-year hiatus. With over 1,000 players, thirty-four teams were set to contest in the 'MTCC Baibalaa Challenge'. The games were scheduled to take place from April 3 to 7 at Dhongandu Beach.
AVAS has learned the decision to postpone the tournament was made at the request of the Maldives Police Service, following a meeting between the police and the Baibalaa Association of Maldives. Senior officials from both the police and the association have confirmed the decision. However, no official statements have been made by either party thus far.
It is believed that the request to postpone the tournament was made due to two separate physical altercations that took place in Male' City on Eid morning. The first altercation occurred at around 5:48 am near Maaveyo Miskiy in Macchangolhi ward, in which a 23-year-old local male was injured. A second fight occurred at around 9:17 am near the Janavaree Magu and Majeedhee Magu junction. Two local men were injured in the incident.
