The Marine Police have commenced safety checks on sea vessels to coincide with the Eid holidays.
The police said the safety checks would be carried out from April 26 to May 2. The program aims to ensure the safety of travelers by assessing the safety condition of vessels as a large number of people travel to the atolls for the Eid holidays, said the police. The program is carried out jointly by the Marine Investigation Department and Marine Enforcement and Operation Department.
The police said their teams would be boarding vessels departing to the atolls and those moored at the North Harbour and the T-Jetty. They will check if all safety guidelines are met and will be sharing information on marine safety with the boat crew.
