The number of tourists that visited the Maldives thus far this year has crossed 600,000.
Official statistics publicized by the Tourism Ministry show that 621,633 tourists have visited the Maldives this year. This is a 50 percent growth compared to the same period last year, during which 413,079 tourist arrivals were recorded.
The increase in arrival numbers compared to pre-pandemic figures from 2019 is 8.7 percent. In 2019, an arrival number of 681,211 during the same period.
The average daily arrival number is currently 4,819. However, the figure was 3,202 during the same period last year.
Among the tourists who visited the Maldives up to May 9, most arrivals were from the United Kingdom. India followed behind, and former top source market Russia lingered in the third place. The ministry did not disclose the number of arrivals from each country.
