Gov't condemns BJP official's insulting remarks about Prophet Muhammad

The Maldives government has officially condemned the insulting of the Holy Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) by Napur Sharma, the Senior Spokesperson of the ruling BJP in India.

The Foreign Ministry said in a statement published in English that the Government of Maldives unreservedly condemned all and any action that purports to pervert the true nature and teachings of Islam and attempts to demean the Holy Prophet Muhammed (PBUH).

The statement further said the Maldivian government was deeply concerned about the insulting remarks made against the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and Islam. by some BJP officials. It also said the government welcomes the BJP's immediate action against the officials who made such remarks.

Senior BJP Spokesperson Napur Sharma insulted the Holy Prophet on an Indian TV channel. BJP has since suspended Sharma and the party's media in-charge Naveen Kumar from their party posts after some Islamic countries issued statements condemning her actions, and Indian Muslims started protesting against it.

BJP also issued a statement on the matter without naming Sharma or her actions and said in general terms that BJP respected all religions. The party also condemned insulting any religious figure.

The entire Islamic Ummah is outraged over Sharma's disrespect toward Prophet Muhammad. Some countries like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Iran have issued strict statements calling for an official apology for the action.
