Maldives reiterates commitment to strengthen security and stability with India

Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer has emphasized the Maldives' commitment to collaborating with India for national and regional stability and security.

In a joint statement released following a meeting with India's External Affairs Minister Dr. Subramanyam Jaishankar, who is on an official visit to the Maldives, Minister Zameer highlighted India's significance as a key partner in the country's development. The minister reaffirmed the current government's commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with India and working together to ensure national and regional stability and security, particularly in combating terrorism, extremism, and drug-related issues.

In the statement, Minister Jaishankar stated that India has always given high priority to assisting the Maldives. Jaishankar said the two nations will engage in discussions on defense and economic cooperation during his visit. He also noted that the strong relationship between India and the Maldives serves as an inspiration for joint efforts in addressing shared challenges.
