Maldives proposes Free Trade Agreement with India to boost bilateral trade

The Maldives has proposed establishing a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with India.

The proposal was presented to India during official discussions between Maldivian Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer and India's External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. The talks took place during Minister Jaishankar's ongoing official visit to the Maldives.

Following the talks, Minister Zameer told reporters that he proposed the FTA on behalf of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. He emphasized that the agreement would enhance trade between the two nations and create new business opportunities.

Minister Jaishankar arrived in the Maldives on Friday. His visit centers on strengthening bilateral relations between the Maldives and India.
