The Maldives Immigration is receiving approximately 800 applications daily for passports.
A statement released by Immigration said it was extending service hours due to the high volume of applications. Immigration said the number of people traveling abroad had increased more than anticipated due to countries dropping COVID-19 restrictions.
Immigration further said passport issuance and renewal requests had increased significantly. Immigration said it used to receive an average of 200 applications a day. However, 800 applications are now received daily for passports. In order to keep up with the demand, Immigration's service hours will be extended until 9 pm from June 14 onward, the statement said.
