Committee approves appointment of two non-resident ambassadors

The Parliament's Foreign Relations Committee has approved the appointment of Hassan Sobir and Umar Abdul Razzaq as non-resident ambassadors.

The committee decided to approve the two members at a Monday meeting. However, the Parliament floor will vote on the committee's decision before their appointment is finalized.

The President sent a letter to the Parliament seeking to appoint Hassan Sobir as the Maldives' Non-Resident Ambassador to Korea and Abdul Razzaq as the Maldives' Non-Resident Ambassador to the Netherlands and Luxembourg.

Former Tourism Minister Hassan Sobir is currently the Maldives' Ambassador to Japan, while Umar Abdul Razzaq is the Ambassador to Belgium and the European Union.

Non-resident ambassadors are not based in the country to which they are appointed.
