Applications open for 4,000 flats in Male' City

The opportunity to apply for 4,000 housing units being developed in Hulhumale has opened on Sunday.

The Planning Ministry said the units are open to residents of Male' city and those from the atolls who have been residing in the city for more than 15 years. Applicants must not own land bigger than 600 sqft to be eligible to receive the flats.

Those who own less than 600 sqft of land are not required to give it up. However, if the land is released to the Ministry, the value of the land will be deducted from the price of the flat.

Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has already paid the advance payments for the flat construction.

The Ministry has also opened the opportunity to apply for 3,000 plots of land in the Male' area. Only residents of Male' can apply for these plots. Any Male' resident who does not own 600 sqft of land and would not inherit land of the size can apply for these plots.

There are six categories of applicants for land under the 'Gedhoruveriya' scheme. While individuals can also apply for the land, family members can apply for land jointly. Alternatively, entire families can also apply for the plots together. Priority will be given to those who submit for the plots together as a family.
