Planning Minister Mohamed Aslam has said the government will issue documents to recipients of the new land plots issued from Male' City, and simultaneously hand over the plots to them.
In June last year, the government opened the opportunity for Male' residents to apply for 3,000 out of 5,000 plots to be issued to Male' residents from the Greater Male' Area, and an additional 4,000 flats. When the deadline for application expired on October 15, the Housing Ministry received 35,861 forms for the two housing programs. While the evaluation of the application forms is ongoing, the government hopes to conclude the process by end of May or early June.
In response to a question asked by an MP at Wednesday's Parliament sitting, Minister Aslam said the presidential pledge to issue land plots and flats from Male' City to address the housing issues in the capital would be fulfilled by the government. While 4,000 social housing units are currently under construction, the minister said some of these units will be handed over to recipients during the current term.
The minister assured that the flats and land plots would be issued by the government before the end of the term. Unlike former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom, who simply issued a document that said recipients would receive flats and plots, the government would ensure that the plots are handed over to the recipients, he added.
