Mini bus to operate on two routes in Male'

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced that mini bus services will be operated on two routes in Male' City.

MTCC said in a statement that 36 mini buses were delivered to the Maldives on the 16th of this month. Five more minibuses will be delivered later this month.

The mini bus service will be operated on two routes in the city but MTCC has not yet announced the details of the routes and the fares.

The mini bus service will be provided in Addu City, Fuvahmulah City, L. Gan, L. Fonadhoo, and L. Isdhoo Kalaidhoo. MTCC said the new mini buses would have a capacity of 18 or 20 passengers. Twelve mini buses will be used to provide services in the city.

MTCC's Rajje Transport Link (RTL) services include RTL ferry services and RTL bus services. In this regard, ferry services have now been introduced to HDh., and Ha. atoll. The company is preparing to begin the service in Sh. atoll.

MTCC's CEO Adam Azim earlier told AVAS that the company is working on launching mini bus services in the city around 31st of this month.

The launch of mini bus services in the city is one of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's presidential pledges to be fulfilled within 100 days of taking office. However, the agreement to begin the service was signed between MTCC and the Ministry of Transport in 2019. According to Transport Minister Aishath Nahla, the commencement of the service is being delayed due to lack of funds.
