The Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) had concluded 361 cases as of July this year.
According to the HRCM, 340 cases were submitted to the commission under the HRCM Act till July this year. As of that period, 525 cases were being investigated, and 314 cases were concluded under the law.
As of July this year, 51 cases had been reported to the commission under the Anti-Torture Act. While 52 cases are under investigation, 35 cases are under duty prosecution. As per statistics, there are two cases pending in court, and 41 cases have been concluded. By the end of July, HRCM was investigating a total of 577 cases.
The HRCM is a commission established to protect people's rights. However, the HRCM has been criticized for failing to properly carry out its mandate.
