Maldives welcomes one-millionth tourist of the year

The Maldives has welcomed its one-millionth tourist of the year.

The honor went to 29-year-old Daniela Kilnarova from the Czech Republic. This is her third visit to the Maldives.

Daniela's first holiday in the Maldives was ten years ago at Kuredu Resort, while her second visit to the Maldives was spent at Adaran Meedhupparu. She arrived in the Maldives on Friday via Qatar Airways for her third holiday in the Maldives at Robinson Club.

Daniela was warmly welcomed upon her arrival at Velana International Airport by officials from the Ministry of Tourism, Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), and some officials from the tourism industry.

Daniela said she was very proud of the honor bestowed on her as the millionth tourist for the year during her third visit to the Maldives. She said the Maldives is a second-to-none destination.

The government aims to attract 1.6 million tourists this year. According to the Tourism Ministry's State Minister Ahmed Solih, the target is expected to be reached by November. MMPRC's Managing Director Thoyyib Mohammed said the arrival of the one-millionth tourist so early in the year is a great achievement for the industry.

The most number of tourists visited the Maldives in 2019. That year, over 1.7 million tourists visited the South Asian archipelago.
