The Roashanee Building, which houses the Health Ministry, has been evacuated after earthquake tremors were felt at the building.
The 10-storey building houses the Health Ministry and several agencies under the ministry.
An official of the national weather service, the MET Office, told AVAS that an earthquake struck the Indonesian region this morning. However, international agencies have not yet announced that the impact of the quake would reach the Maldives.
"We have received such information. We are looking into it further," the official said.
An employee of the Health Ministry told AVAS that some employees at the ministry building felt tremors from the earthquake.
"There was a very slight shaking. Some employees were concerned about it and informed the relevant authorities, and we evacuated the building with their advice," the employee said.
