The land for the construction of 400 housing units in HDh. Kulhudhuffushi City has been handed over to the contractor.
The agreement was signed by Mohamed Athif on behalf of the Kulhudhuffishi City Council at a ceremony held at the council on Wednesday. The contractor, Donbez Pvt Ltd's Head of Operations, Ali Hamdhoon, signed on behalf of the contractor.
The 400 housing unit project in Kulhudhuffushi is the largest housing project undertaken outside the Greater Male' Area. On July 7, the government awarded the project contract to Twenty-Third Metallurgical Construction Group Co. Ltd., a joint venture of Donbez Pvt Ltd.
Donbez will design and build the housing units, and the project is expected to be completed within 540 days. The cost of the project is MVR 439.99 million and will be funded from the approved PSIP budget for this year.
The Planning Ministry said each housing unit in the five 11-story towers would be 1000 sqft. Each housing unit will have three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a living room, a kitchen, a dining room, laundry, and a store room.
The units will receive adequate natural light to create a comfortable environment for the residents. A park will be constructed for recreation, and the ground floor of the eleven-story housing units will be used for commercial and maintenance offices. Bicycle parking spaces will be provided for each apartment, and elevators will be installed in the buildings.
The government has allocated MVR 1.5 billion for housing projects in the atolls. Kulhudhuffushi is the seventh island to be awarded a contract to build housing units. In addition to Kulhudhuffushi, contracts have been awarded for the construction of housing units in Ha. Dhidhdhoo, Sh. Milandhoo, N. Manadhoo, Lh. Hinnavaru, L. Gan, and Ga. Villingili.
