Drugs worth MVR 5 mln seized by Customs

A man accused of smuggling drugs into the Maldives via post has been arrested.

The Maldives Customs Service said the drugs were seized while searching parcels imported by post on the 25th of this month.

The parcel was sent to the Maldives from Germany and contained four packets of two types of drugs, according to customs.

Customs said two packets contained Ketamine while two packets contained cocaine. The two packets of Ketamine weighed 1,087 grams, while the cocaine packets weighed 587 grams. The street value of the drugs is estimated at MVR 5 million.

Customs have handed over the seized drugs and the suspect to police.

Earlier on Wednesday, Customs revealed that they seized a 585-gram packet of mephedrone, also smuggled in via post, and that a suspect had been arrested.
