Drugs worth MVR 2 mln seized by Customs

Maldives Customs Service has seized 1.34 kg of drugs smuggled into the Maldives via courier.

Customs said the items were seized while searching a suspicious parcel brought to the Maldives from the Netherlands through courier. Substances believed to be two types of drugs were found in the parcels.

Customs said the drugs were found on November 20. Upon initial testing, the substances came back positive for mephedrone and heroin.

The drugs seized weighed 1.34 kg and had a street value of MVR 2,049,000. It has now been handed over to the police, customs said.
