The most recently registered political party in the Maldives, the Maldives National Party (MNP), has started its first congress.
The congress was inaugurated on Friday night by the party's President and Dhangethi MP Mohamed Nazim.
After opening the congress, Nazim and other senior members of the party addressed the congress. The main event for the first session was opening speeches by senior members.
The main activities of the congress will continue over three sessions on Saturday. Amendments to the party's constitution will be proposed and discussed at Saturday's sessions. Members will also be elected for some positions.
The congress, titled "The National Convention 2022", is scheduled to officially conclude on Saturday night.
The MNP congress is attended by the party's branch presidents and vice-presidents. The congress is also attended by members of the party's National Executive Council, Parliamentary Group, Councils, and Women's Development Committees.
