5,000 tourist beds brought into operation

More than 5,000 tourist beds have been brought into operation this year, statistics from the Ministry of Tourism have shown.

As of December 29, 2021, the operational capacity of tourist facilities was 53,140 beds. According to the latest figures released by the ministry, the number stood at 58,479 on the 21st of this month. This is an increase of 5,339 beds.

At the end of 2021, there were 161 resorts and 143 safaris in operation. In addition, 621 hotels and guesthouses were also in operation.

According to the Tourism Ministry's statistics, the number of resorts increased to 164 and safaris to 154. There are currently 866 hotels and guesthouses operating in the Maldives.

The number of tourists visiting the Maldives so far this year has reached 1.15 million. The number of arrivals was 840,099 during the same period last year.

The largest number of tourists visited the Maldives from India. While 163,717 tourists visited from India, 137,501 tourists visited from Russia, the second largest tourist market. A further 129,568 tourists visited from the UK, while 91,753 tourists visited from Germany. The Maldives saw 67,482 tourists arriving from Italy.
