The number of international flights arriving in the Maldives increased by 32 percent in August this year compared to the same month last year, statistics have shown.
According to the central bank, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), 9,988 international flights arrived in the Maldives as of August this year. There were 7,548 international flights during the same period last year.
While 8,467 scheduled international flights arrived in the Maldives as of the end of August this year, 5,831 flights in the same period last year. Although scheduled flights increased compared to the previous year, a decline was recorded in the number of chartered flights and private jets. There were 1,521 chartered flights and private jets by the end of August this year, while 1,717 flights arrived during the same period last year.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, more than 20 international airlines currently fly to the Maldives. These include Emirates, Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways, Fly Dubai, Air Asia, and Singapore Airlines.
Statistics show that over one million tourists visited the Maldives this year by the end of August.
