Locals to be trained for senior resort management positions

The Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Higher Education have held discussions to commence special efforts to train Maldivians for senior positions in resorts.

The discussions were led by Higher Education Minister Dr. Ibrahim Hassan and Tourism Minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom at the Higher Education Ministry. The discussions focused on identifying specific areas for building tourism workers and starting the process.

Minister Dr. Ibrahim Hassan said the Higher Education Ministry is already running various courses to build human resources in the tourism sector. However, special efforts need to be launched to train people in the field of resort management, he noted.

"We have granted accounting scholarships in the near past. I believe they are also senior management positions in resorts. We need more information on the areas in which we want to build people and how to certify them," the minister said.

Tourism Minister Dr. Mausoom said it was a great pleasure to have discussions with the Higher Education Ministry on the matter. He said the Tourism Ministry was ready to work with the Higher Education Ministry to train locals for senior management positions in resorts.

"We are ready to work with the Ministry of Higher Education through identifying the areas needed for resort management training," he said.
