Planning Ministry fined for violating EIA

The Planning Ministry has been fined for implementing the S. Maradhoofeydhoo Harbour Construction project in violation of the permitted plan.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) took action against the Planning Ministry for constructing the harbor in violation of the EIA report. The ministry was fined MVR 120,000 and was ordered to pay the fine within 30 days. The EPA has also asked the ministry to submit an environmental audit report within 60 days after assessing the damage caused by the modifications.

The Planning Ministry has violated EIAs twice before, and action was taken against the ministry accordingly.

The fine came after the harbor was completed and officially opened by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in March. The harbor was built by Heavy Force Pvt. Ltd.
