Tourist arrival number crosses 1.3 mln

The number of tourists visiting the Maldives this year has reached 1.3 million.

According to the statistics released by the Tourism Ministry, 1,312,993 tourists visited the Maldives as of the 25th of this month. The figure is 33.5 percent higher than in the same period last year. However, the arrival numbers have still not matched the pre-COVID-19 numbers from 2019.

India is currently the number one source market for Maldivian tourism, accounting for 14.1 percent of the total tourist arrivals this year. The next largest markets are Russia and the UK.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, 166 resorts, 856 guesthouses, and 157 safari vessels are currently operated in the Maldives. While 13 hotels and three homestay properties are also operated, the total number of beds is 58,957.
