MVR 6.4 million has been included in next year's budget for the construction of Arabiyya School's new building.
Arabiyya students were moved to the former temporary building of the Foreign Ministry on January 16 this year after an engineering study deemed the original Arabiyya School structure was unsafe. The new Arabiyya School will be constructed on the land formerly occupied by the old Jamaluddin School.
When the state budget for next year was presented to the Parliament, it did not include funds for the construction of the Arabiyya School. The budget was allocated for the purpose at a budget committee meeting held Friday.
The contract for the construction of the new school building, and an additional building to add space to Jamaluddin School was awarded to Amin Construction on September 29.
Amin has been given 420 days to complete the two buildings. The government will spend MVR 168 million for the construction of the two buildings.
