Tourism grows by 29 percent

The Maldives' tourism industry grew by 29.8 percent this year over last year.

According to the statistics released by the Tourism Ministry, 1.45 million tourists visited the Maldives from January to November 23 this year. During the same period last year, the number of tourists that visited Maldives was 1.12 million.

Statistics show that tourism in November alone has grown compared exponentially compared to the previous three years.

From November 1 to 23, 111,813 tourists visited the Maldives, an increase of 7.5 percent over the same period in 2019 and 2.3 percent over the same period last year.

Currently, tourists spend an average of eight days in the Maldives.

The largest number of tourists visit the Maldives from India. While Indian tourists possessed 14 percent of arrivals with 203,813 tourists, Russia accounted for 12.3 percent -- 178,934 tourists. The UK accounted for 10.9 percent with 158,855 tourists.
