Maldives tourism grows by 6.5 percent

The Maldives' tourism grew by 6.5 percent in November this year compared to pre-COVID-19 numbers from 2019.

According to the Tourism Ministry, 146,879 tourists visited the Maldives in November this year. In November 2019, 137,921 tourists visited the country, while 146,879 tourists visited the Maldives in November last year.

The number of tourists visiting the Maldives from January to November has crossed 1.49 million. The government expects between 1.5 million and 1.8 million tourists to visit the Maldives by the end of this year.

The "Fiscal Strategy Statement 2023 – 2025" released by the Finance Ministry forecasts 1,625,648 tourist arrivals in moderate conditions and 1,751,186 tourists in best conditions.

Currently, India is the largest tourist source market for Maldives tourism. Indian tourists accounted for 14 percent of the total arrivals this year, with 209,725 tourists. Russia followed behind, accounting for 12.2 percent with 182,337 tourists. The Maldives received 162,020 tourists from the UK, which is 10.9 percent of the total arrivals this year.
