Statistics have shown that almost 75,000 tourists have visited the Maldives thus far this year.
According to the Tourism Ministry, the number of tourists visiting the country from January to December 14 this year stood at 1.56 million. This is a 27.6 percent increase over the same period last year. However, it is 2.1 percent lower than the pre-COVID-19 numbers from 2019.
Statistics show that so far this month, the country has received 74,840 tourists, averaging 5,346 tourists per day. Tourists spend an average of 7.3 days in the Maldives this month.
The most number of tourists are visiting Maldives this year from India. Indian tourists accounted for 14.3 percent of the total arrivals, with 224,640 tourists. The second largest number of tourists came from Russia. The Maldives received 189,586 tourists from Russia, which is 12.1 percent of the total arrivals thus far this year. The UK followed behind with 168,123 tourist arrivals, accounting for 10.7 percent of the total.
A large number of tourists also visited the Maldives from Germany, Italy, the United States, France, Spain, South Korea, and Switzerland.
