Human remains have been found during the search for an AFCONS Infrastructure employee who went missing during a fire.
India's AFCONS company is the developer of the Thila-Male' Bridge. A fire broke out at the AFCONS accommodation in Gulhifalhu late Thursday night, injuring 73 people. A search to locate the missing man was launched after a headcount following the fire failed to tally with the number of employees that resided at the location.
Police said human remains were found while searching the area. Authorities are trying to determine whether they are indeed human body parts or those of the missing person.
Over 465 employees resided at the accommodation where the fire broke out. Some of them jumped down from the upper floors of the building to escape the fire. Seventy-three people were injured in the incident, out of which thirteen were taken to IGMH for treatment. Sixty people were treated at Tree Top Hospital. Those injured include people with broken arms and legs, and burns.
The cause of the fire has not yet been revealed. AFCONS said the cause of the fire is being investigated and that the company's employees had been moved to safe locations
