The police have arrested a man reported as missing.
Local man Mohamed Nizam, 45, from Manaaru / GDh. Thinadhoo, and Bangladeshi national Mohamed Litton, 35, were reported missing on December 30 after they departed from Thilafushi island on an oil barge on December 28. While the vessel was later found drifting off Hulhule', no persons were aboard the vessel.
While the search was ongoing for the missing men, a member of the public who spotted Nizam in Male' City took a photo with the man and posted it on social media. The police also confirmed that Nizam had been found at a Male' guesthouse. However, the Bangladeshi man has not been found to date.
The police Tuesday said Nizam had been arrested under a court order in relation to a murder investigation. No further information was given.
Earlier on Monday, a dead body was found floating in the sea near V. Venfaru. However, the police have not disclosed any information on the identity of the deceased.
