More than 75,000 tourists arrived in the Maldives in the first two weeks of this year.
According to the Tourism Ministry, 75,485 tourists visited the Maldives as of the 14th of this month. This is a 20.8 percent increase over the same period last year. Last year, 62,504 tourists visited the country during the same period.
The current top source market is Russia. The Maldives received 12,780 tourists, which is 16.9 percent of total arrivals, from Russia. Italy followed behind, with 8,624 arrivals. India came third on the list with 6,996 tourists. The Maldives received 4,436 tourists came from the UK and 3,727 from Germany during the first two weeks of the year. The United States, France, Kazakhstan, Australia, and Switzerland are also among the top source markets.
According to the Tourism Ministry, 21 countries currently operate direct flights to the Maldives. More than 30 airlines operate to the Maldives.
A total of 1,207 tourism facilities are currently operating in the Maldives. These include 168 resorts, 869 guesthouses, 157 safaris, and 13 hotels. These facilities operate 59,608 tourism beds in total.
