Three hospital projects have been awarded to contractors for a total of MVR 501 million.
The three islands where the hospital will be built are Haa Alifu Ihavandhoo, Noonu Kendhikulhudhoo, and Lhaviyani Hinnavaru. Each of these hospitals will have 30 beds.
The construction of hospitals in Hinnavaru and Kendhikulhudhoo was awarded to Sas E Construction Pvt Ltd at a ceremony held at the Health Ministry on January 5.
The Hinnavaru and Kendhikulhudhoo hospitals are being built with loans from the national bank, the Bank of Maldives (BML). A loan of MVR 185,810,605 will be taken for the construction of the Hinnavaru Hospital, while a loan of MVR 193,895,234 will be taken for the Kendhikulhudhoo Hospital. An accommodation building will be constructed along with the hospital building under both projects.
The construction of Ihavandhoo Hospital was awarded to a company called Duplex Pvt Ltd for MVR 123,303,792.
Eighteen months have been granted to complete the projects, which were awarded on a contract finance basis.
The Ministry of Finance last month opened a tender for the construction of hospitals in seven islands in the Maldives with the assistance of the Kuwait Fund. All seven hospitals will have a 30-bed capacity.
