Four candidates apply for High Court judge vacancy

Four candidates have applied for the post of High Court judge.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) opened application for the post with the deadline set for January 30. Four candidates, including Chief Justice of the Criminal Court Ahmed Shakeel and Civil Court Judge Mariyam Waheed, applied for the post.

Candidates for High Court Judge's post are:

Ahmed Shakeel, Siyama Manzil, Aa. Feridhoo
Mohamed Shaneez Abdulla, Handhuvaree Naaz, GDh. Gadhdhoo
Hussain Shakeeb, Hulhumale' Dholhas, Male'
Mariyam Waheed, Balloon, S. Feydhoo

A person with at least five years of experience in the judiciary or law sector w or both can become a judge of the High Court.

A High Court judge will receive a basic salary of MVR 36,000, a living allowance of MVR 15,000, a risk allowance of MVR 3,300, and a medical and phone allowance as determined by Parliament.

The High Court currently has nine judges. Justice Hussain Shaheed is presently temporarily in charge of the High Court.
