Amount of land plots to be issued from Male' area to be increased

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has pledged to allocate more land plots in addition to the 5,000 plots previously scheduled to be allocated in the Male' area.

Delivering his yearly inaugural address at the Parliament, President Solih said that more land plots would be allocated in the Male' area than previously promised. Therefore, the number of land plots issued from the Male' area would be more than 5,000.

The President noted that a large number of people had applied for the land and flats to be allocated from the Male' area. In this regard, 20,697 people have applied for flats while 15,164 people have applied for land, he said.

"These applications are currently being processed. We will hopefully hand over the documents to the beneficiaries before the end of June this year," he said.

Three sizes of land will be allocated under the government's 'Gedhoruverin' program. The minimum plot size for an individual will be 1,250 sqft. An area of 400 sqft will be added for each additional person in case of a joint application. A total of 4,000 sqft will be allocated if the application is submitted by more than seven people.
