Rescheduled payment options offered to flat recipients

The government has decided to offer flexible payment options for those behind in paying rent for the flats issued from Hulhumale' under the former government's "Gedhoruveri Kurun" program.

The Planning Ministry has issued an announcement giving the opportunity to submit applications for rescheduled payment of 704 flats allocated under the housing program. The applications can be submitted until the end of the month.

The flats were built in 2018 by China's Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC). According to the Planning Ministry, 31 to 41 percent of the people residing in the flats do not pay their rent regularly. However, no action is taken against such people.

The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has said many who received flats under the country's largest housing project, the "Hiyaa" project, also do not pay rent regularly.
