Tourist arrivals increase by 29.7 percent

The number of tourists visiting the Maldives so far this year has increased compared to the same period last year.

According to the statistics released by the Tourism Ministry, 267,507 tourists visited the Maldives as of February 15 this year. This is an increase of 61,326 tourists, a 29.7 percent increase, compared to the 206,181 tourists that visited during the same period last year.

Russia is currently the top source market for Maldives tourism, with 34,128 tourists. India follows behind with 29,513 tourists, while Germany comes third with 17,215. Another 11,905 tourists arrived from France, while 10,978 tourists visited from the United States.

China, the top source market before the COVID-9 pandemic, recently opened its borders following the pandemic. Since then, the Maldives has received 8,015 tourists from China, making China one of the top ten source markets.

There are currently 168 tourist resorts operating in the Maldives, with 41,049 beds. An additional 14,282 beds are available from 883 guesthouses, 2,953 from 152 safaris, and 1,640 beds from 13 hotels.
