Jumhooree Party has said Vice President of the Maldives, Faisal Naseem, did not attend the party's congress despite being invited.
Vice President Faisal is a member of the Jumhooree Party. JP's Spokesperson, Ali Solih, said the invitation letter sent to VP Faisal was signed by JP leader Qasim Ibrahim.
The JP began its fourth national conference on Friday to decide on several important matters relevant to the party. The congress was attended by MDP President Mohamed Nasheed and Adhaalath Party President Imran Abdulla.
According to JP, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom were also invited to attend the congress. However, President Solih is currently on an unofficial visit to Singapore while President Maumoon is in Malaysia.
The most important decision to be taken by JP at its congress is how the JP will proceed with the upcoming presidential election. A decision will be made on whether the party will contest the elections and/or form a coalition.
