Dheema and Azneen named best athletes of the country

TT player Fathmath Dheema Ali and bodybuilder Azneen Rashad have been named the best athletes of the country at this year's Maldives Sports Awards.

The two athletes were presented with the awards at the awards ceremony held at the Male' Ekuveni Synthetic Track Friday night by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

The President was accompanied by First Lady Fazna Ahmed at the ceremony. The Sports Minister, Ahmed Mahloof, cabinet ministers, Nigerian Minister of Sports, Sunday Akin Dare and world-class sportspersons and athletes and local athletes attended the ceremony.

The President also presented awards to five recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award, eight recipients of the Sports Icon Award, and 16 recipients of the Special Recognition Award.

The Lifetime Achievement Award is given to those who have served in the sports industry for long years. The Sports Icon Award is conferred to those who have achieved international success in the sports field and have made a positive difference in the lives of many people. The Special Recognition Award is given to those who have worked to promote sports in the Maldives and bring about positive change in society through sports.

The Maldives Sports Awards is the largest sports awards ceremony in the country. The Maldives Sports Awards was introduced, and the first awards ceremony was held last year.
