Over 54,000 tourists have visited the Maldives thus far this year from Russia, the top source market for Maldivian tourism.
According to the Tourism Ministry, 54,527 Russian tourists arrived in the Maldives as of March 15. This is 12.4 percent of the total 440,059 tourists during the period this year.
According to statistics, total tourist arrivals increased by 23.8 percent thus far this year compared to the same period last year. Last year, 355,433 tourists visited the tourism-dependent archipelago during the same period.
India, the second largest source market, accounts for 10.8 percent of the total arrivals, with 47,462 tourists. The UK follows behind with 41,126 tourists, while Italy comes fourth with 39,919 arrivals. Germany is in the fifth position with 30,028 arrivals.
Other countries on the top ten source market list are France, Italy, the USA, China, Switzerland, and Poland. According to the ministry, all countries except the United States have direct flights to the Maldives.
There are currently 169 resorts, 893 guesthouses, 153 safari vessels, and 13 hotels operated in the Maldives. The number of tourist beds in these facilities is 60,362.
